I will check out Tox. It's new to me.

I did receive your reply, and have replied back. Since you received 3, I'll stop
sending from the other email address I used.

Thanks, and looking forward to peering with you once it's all set up.

Thank you for cooperation.
I decided to shutting down my news server at 14 july 2022.

Hi Miner, I've been following your thread in n.a.p and I see
frustration with the lack of interest in i2p etc., or privacy.
It's hard to find people to peer with in these networks, and
can be hard to find people that understand why some may want
a bit more privacy.

Even with just one peer, you still are able to run your own
server and communicate with some privacy in Usenet. I'd hate
to see you shut down, but of course it's up to you.

If you stay, I'd be willing to set up a server for Tor (I have
several inn servers running) and we can also peer that way. It
would be more of just the challenge of making things work
properly, and the satisfaction of being two of the very few
news servers in these networks.

Who knows, over time some others may decide to link up (peer)
and we can build a larger network outside of clearnet.

Whatever your decision, I of course respect that.

Access to Usenet is an important advantage over the forums.
However, only one newsfeed is not enough to provide a stable
access to Usenet - advantage may be lost at any time. It will be
difficult to explain to users why I loss of access and why I
can't establish more newsfeeds.

Our link over I2P network works great. As I said above, my
concern is related to the lack of peers. Hypothetically, the
rocksolid may break while you are relaxing on the Australian
beach; you may lose interest to your project; etc. For these
reasons, it is desirable to interact with more peers.

With the Neodome's departure there has been a reverse trend.

> Whatever your decision, I of course respect that.

OK. I will continue maintain my news server as he works very well
(since I chose ovdb) and does not require much efforts from my
side. Nevertheless, his description needs to be adjusted. I will
remove Usenet mentions from my eepsite as it not an advantage
now, but a small bonus, which may disappear at any time.

That is a very reasonable concern.

Again, very reasonable. It would be nice if more people had an
interest in these networks (for nntp type things), but right now
there is not much. I believe that part of this lack of interest
may be that people who do use these networks may not be aware
that nntp is available, and/or why they would even want to use
Usenet.

Ok, I'm happy to hear that. I understand reducing the advertising
of Usenet on your site. Maybe state, "Since there is only one bridge
to Usenet from i2p, this service (nntp) may be interrupted at any time."

I do run servers from three different physical locations, and three
different i2p routers, so if one goes down for some reason, it shouldn't
affect the others. If you wish to peer with more than one of my servers
just in case, that's fine with me, just let me know.

I don't plan on going anywhere, but you are correct that things happen
and none of us really know the future.

Thanks,

Retro Guy

It is good idea to establish another one link. Do you have server
in South Asia/America?

All my servers are in the U.S., but are in different U.S. states.
I'll configure peering for your server soon and let you know it's
set up.

I will have it all set at the weekend. This server does not rely
on the server you already peer with, so can hopefully be a good
second peer.

I just need to set up the client and server tunnels and will ask
for your persistent key when I do that. Then we should be all good
to go. I plan to use the same b32 address to connect to your server
as our other connection if that's ok with you.

I'll communicate addresses, etc. by email when ready.
